The New York Red Bulls are one of the 10 original MLS teams that began playing in 1996. Originally known as the New York/New Jersey Metrostars, the team was rebranded when it was bought by Red Bull GmbH (the conglomerate that produces Red Bull energy drinks) in 2006. The Red Bulls were awarded the supporters'’ Shield (given to the team that finishes first in the regular season standings) three times, in 2013, 2015, and 2018.
