The New York Red Bulls are one of the 10 original MLS teams that began playing in 1996. Originally known as the New York/New Jersey Metrostars, the team was rebranded when it was bought by Red Bull GmbH (the conglomerate that produces Red Bull energy drinks) in 2006. The Red Bulls were awarded the supporters'’ Shield (given to the team that finishes first in the regular season standings) three times, in 2013, 2015, and 2018. The Metros made the MLS Cup Final in 2008 but unfortunately lost. They also finished as runner-up in the U.S. Open Cup Final in 2003 and 2017. The Red Bulls play at Red Bull Arena, a soccer-specific stadium in New Jersey. The arena seats 25,000 fans, which is the third-most in MLS.
